Inventory & stock management
Mera Udyog is inventory management software in India for businesses with more than one plant, outlet or godown. See stock in every location on one screen, get low-stock alerts before an item runs out, and raise the purchase order in the same app.
The stock problem
A stock register can’t warn you.
Stock problems rarely come from bad storekeepers. They come from not being able to see. The main store has one register, Plant 2 has another, and the warehouse updates its count on WhatsApp when someone remembers. When you can’t see stock clearly, you also over-order to be safe, and cash sits on shelves.
Small businesses don’t need warehouse robotics. They need to know what they have, where it is and when to reorder. Mera Udyog is inventory management software for small businesses that keeps those three answers on one screen, on a phone or a computer, without a consultant to set it up.
For factories, a shortage of one raw material stops a line. Track raw material and finished goods by plant and store, set reorder levels on the items that matter, and raise the purchase order when the alert comes in. It’s production inventory management without a heavy ERP.
For retail chains, every outlet is a warehouse. See what each store has on hand, spot the outlet that’s running short before the weekend, and move stock from a store with extra before buying more.
Reorder formula
A reorder level is the stock quantity at which you should place a new order, so it arrives before you run out:
Reorder level = average daily use × supplier lead time in days + safety stock
Example: You use 20 cans of hydraulic oil a day, your supplier takes 5 days, and you keep 40 cans as a buffer. Reorder level = 20 × 5 + 40 = 140 cans.
Getting started
Many businesses start with inventory management in Excel. It works for one location and a few hundred items. It breaks when you add a second godown, when two people edit the same sheet, or when you need an alert instead of a formula. If you’re still running stock in Excel, start by listing your locations and your top 50 fast-moving items. That list is all you need to set up Mera Udyog.
Quarterly habit
Once a quarter, list every item that hasn’t moved in 90 days. Decide for each one: use it, sell it at a discount, return it, or write it off. Seeing stock by location makes this list easy to build.
Measure it
| Measure | What it tells you | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Items below reorder level | What needs ordering now | Check daily, raise POs |
| Stock-outs per month | How often shortages hit work | Aim for zero on critical items |
| Items not moved in 90 days | Dead stock locking up cash | Review every quarter |
| Count vs system difference | How accurate your records are | Check during weekly cycle counts |
Before and after
| Task | Stock register | Mera Udyog |
|---|---|---|
| Checking stock | Call each location | One screen, every location |
| Spotting shortages | On the floor or shelf | Low-stock alert in advance |
| Raising a PO | Separate paper or email | In the same app |
| Stock and sales | Separate records | Same app as orders and billing |
